memorialThe American Legion was Chartered and Incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a Patriotic Veterans Organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. The American Legion is the Nations largest war time Veterans Organization committed to sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating Patriotism, Honor and promoting strong National Security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and Veterans.

The Elmer E. Krohl American Legion post 597 began in 1932 with veterans first meeting at various members homes. Moving to the Boro firehouse and then to the Etna Elks home. A charter was granted on December 27,1935. Chuck Kammerer was installed as the 1st commander. On May 31,1941 the post moved into it’s current home at 318 Butler St Etna, Pennsylvania. The post is named for Pvt. Elmer E. Kohl of Etna who died of combat wounds in France during world war I. The Elmer E. Krohl American Legion post 597 has been very valuable to the Etna Community since its inception. You may see us marching in the Etna Memorial Day Parade, placing flags on veterans grave sites, or any other variety of community activities. We are committed to welcoming all veterans into our post, and honoring those who have left us.
